‘2008’ was our first year to have a “Mocktail Mixoff” as an additional event. It was sponsored by Parkland High School Alumnus, Tim Massaquoi, Class of 2001, and graduate University of Michigan 2005.
The purpose was to support doing the right thing by not drinking and driving. The Mocktails are summer cocktails created by individuals/teams and they were voted on by the attendees and a panel of Celebrity judges. The Mocktail mixologists were:
Donna Steckel, Assistant Principal PHS, who created the ‘Parkland Pomegranate Splash’
Michael and Nancy Davila with Michael and Leslie Sheftel for the Family Team, who create the ‘Bahama Brahma Bull’
Iron Pigs Executive Chef Ed Ingram, who created ‘Pigs in Paradise’
Kristen Mayer, Reporter for Service Electric TV 2 Sport, who created Bo Sox Slider
The Judges were:
Kale Sweeney, recent graduate from PHS, and the 2008 winner of the Justin Sheftel Memorial Scholarship. Kale is attending Johns Hopkins, majoring in Biomedical Engineering and playing football.
Rich Fatzinger, currently the Athletic Director at PHS. He is the school’s all time winningest basketball coach, leading the Trojans to 3 District Titles including an appearance in the 2004 State Finals.
Joe Wolf, a graduate of Allen HS and Boston College, a two time All American Football Player. He was drafted in the first round, by Arizona Cardinals, where he played his entire 9 year career, winning the 1997 True Value Man of the Year. Joe was inducted into the Boston College Hall of Fame and the College Hall of Fame. Currently owner and President of Fitwolf, inc. a national fitness distributorship. He lives in Allentown, Pa with wife Jeanmarie and children Darcy, Joseph, and Milly.
Congressman Charles (Charlie) W. Dent, our representative in Washington, DC, PA 15th Congressional District covering Lehigh and Northampton Counties, parts of Montgomery and Berks. Charlie is a graduate of Allen HS, Penn State, and Lehigh University. He lives with his wife Pamela and their three children Kathryn, William and Jack in Allentown.
